Thus, the shawl consists of two parts, a body and a border.

For the shawl I used:

  • Yarn: Gründl Cotton Quick print (198 baby multicolor), 100% cotton 125m(136.7yd)/50gr
  • Hook: 3.5 mm and 4 mm

Dimensions of the shawl are:

Width at top: approx. 160 cm / 63”

Height mid back: 76.5 cm / 30.12”

For these dimensions of the shawl you will need total 335 gr (approx. 7 skeins x 50gr)

Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • single crochet – sc
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • ch-3 picot = ch 3 and make 1 sl st in the first chain

  • ch 3 on the beginning of the round counts as 1 dc
  • ch 4 on the beginning of the round counts as 1 dc + ch 1
  • in the brackets at the end of each row you can see the total number of the dc in the row

Body of the shawl

Start, Row 1 and Row 2 are on the E4 (3.5mm) hook, rest of the body is on the G6 (4mm) hook.

Start with ch 4 and make a ring with 1 sl st in the first chain from the hook. Then, follow with row 1.

Row 1: ch 3, 1 dc in the ring, ch 1, 1 dc in the ring, ch 2, 1 dc in the ring, ch 1, 2 dc in the ring (total 6 dc). Then, turn the piece.

Row 2: ch 3, 1 dc between 1.st and 2.nd dc, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next dc) repeat twice, ch 1, 1 dc around ch-2 space, ch 2, 1 dc around ch-2 space, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat ( ) twice, ch 1, 2 dc around ch-3 space. (total 10 dc). Turn the piece.

For the following rows, use hook 4 mm.

Row 3: ch 3, 1 dc between 1.st and 2.nd dc, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat 4 times, ch 1, 1 dc around ch -2 space, ch 2, 1 dc around same ch-2 space, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat 4 times, ch 1, 2 dc around ch-3 space. (total 14 dc) Then turn the piece.

Row 4: ch 4, 1 dc between 1.st and 2.nd dc, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat 6 times,
ch 1, 1 dc around ch-2 space, ch 2, 1 dc around same ch-2 space, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat 6
times, (ch 1, 1 dc around ch-3 space) repeat twice. (total 18 dc) So, turn the piece.

Row 5: ch 4, 1 dc around first ch-1 space, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat 8 times, ch 1, 1 dc around
ch -2 space, ch 2, 1 dc around same ch-2 space, (ch 1, 1 dc in the next stitch) repeat 8 times, (ch 1, 1 dc
around ch-4 space) repeat twice. (total 22 dc) Then turn the piece and continue until you reach the desired dimensions.

Аnd in the image below you can see what the shawl with the first 5 rows looks like.

crochet summer shawl row 5

For the above dimensions I made 67 rows.

In fact, the border is very simple in only one row.

Border of the crochet summer shawl

So you can see the border of a 5-row shawl sample.

If you like a tight border use hook 3.5 mm (E4), otherwise 4 mm (G6).

Thus, start with ch 3 (if you use hook 3.5 mm/E4) or ch 2 (if you use hook 4 mm/G6). Then skip first ch-1 space and make 2 dc in the next stitch, 1 picot and 2 dc in the same stitch. Then ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, skip next dc and make 1 sc around next ch-1 space.

Continue with (ch 1, skip next dc, skip next ch-1 space, 2 dc in the next stitch, 1 picot, 2 dc in the same stitch, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, skip next stitch, 1 sc around next ch space) repeat twice.

Then ch 1, skip next dc, skip next ch-1 space and make 1 dc in the next dc. Now you should make the center in the ch-2 space. Thus, make 2 dc, 1 picot, 2 dc around ch-2 space.

So, continue with 1 dc in the next stitch, (ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, skip next dc, 1 sc around the next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next dc, skip next ch-1 space, 2 dc in the next dc, 1 picot, 2 dc in the same dc) repeat twice.

Finally, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, skip next dc, 1 sc around next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next dc, skip next ch-1 space, 2 dc in the next (last) dc, 1 picot, 2 dc in the same (last) dc. To finish the border 1 hdc in the 2nd ch (3.5 mm (E4) hook), otherwise ch 1, 1 hdc in the 3rd ch (4 mm (G6) hook).
